Individual Championship Results

MAGNOLIA, DE – July 30, 2022 – This year’s individual championship was held at Jonathan's Landing Golf Club in Magnolia, Delaware. The participants were followed closely by friends, families and sworn enemies as the battle for the championship took place. It was a hard fought match between veteran DGL members Nick Dean, Jacob Hacker, Timothy Hopkins and Billy Leonard. In the end, there could only be one victor.....let's dive into his mindset from that day:

'After the first hole I was tied for last, but knew there was a lot of golf left to be played. At the second hole (par 5) I was on in two, but had a 3-putt....I was starting to think today wasn’t my day. That feeling of dread was reenforced on the third hole (par 4) with my only double bogey of the day. I said to myself, "this was nothing a little swing juice couldn’t fix." 

After the sixth hole (par 4) I knew it was going to be a battle. I drove pin high right and had a good opportunity to score. I ended up chipping to (a familiar) seven inches and had a tap in for birdie. As I was walking up to my ball to tap in, Billy decided to hole out from the fringe to birdie as well - not letting me get a stroke up on him. I finished the front nine with a one stroke lead on Tim and two stroke lead on Bill. I knew I had to go low to stay in front of them on the back nine - so I did just that. 

Still, it wasn’t over as Billy was shooting good too. I birdied the twelfth (par 4) after hitting a 15-ft putt and birded again on the sixteenth (par 5) after hitting a 340-yard drive straight down the fairway. I finished the back nine even par and ultimately won with a 6-stroke lead. Overall, I had three birdies, nine pars, five bogeys and one double bogey on the day.'
